The Gilbert Town Council on Tuesday will vote on funding for a pilot program in which police would use electronic ticketing devices to issue citations. The program would cost $125,000 for 20 devices from Advanced Public Safety.

Officers using the devices could swipe a driver’s license, or enter car or state ID, in order to process an accurate ticket. The device automatically figures the statute and fine amount.
