Gilbert resident Michele Elek-Zuberbuehler, co-founder and director of Queen Creek's Panacea Animal Wellness Sanctuary, is a winner of the Cardinals Community Quarterback Award. The Cardinals program honors individuals who improve their community through volunteerism and awards $20,000 to the charitable organizations they serve.

Elek-Zuberbuehler and the other recipients will be honored during the Arizona Cardinals pre-game show Sunday before the national anthem. The game between the Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks starts at 2:15 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Panacea Animal Wellness Sanctuary (PAWS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was founded in 2009. Since then, the organization has rescued more than 105 dogs and 20 cats from euthanasia. PAWS is a proud member of the PetSmart Adoption Partner Program. You can meet and adopt the PAWS animals every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at PetSmart, 6932 E. Hampton Avenue, Mesa. Visit www.pawsaz.org online for more information.
