This argument was filed with the Town of Gilbert for a publicity pamphlet to be mailed to voters in September.

The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce supports Ordinance No. 1926, Zoning Z06-12-C, rezoning of approximately 170 acres located southeast and southwest of Germann and Greenfield Roads.

The Town of Gilbert’s General Plan was approved by the citizens of Gilbert in 2001 and updated through a very public process in 2005. The General Plan includes maps that are used as a guide for land use within the community.

The land referenced in Zoning case Z06-12-C has been designated for the appropriate use in the General Plan for years; however, whenever land is developed that was formerly agricultural and in the county it must be annexed and the zoning changed from agricultural to other uses.

Zoning cases are public meetings and allow citizens to refer decisions to a vote of the people as in this case when some of the neighbors disagreed with the land use already planned through the General Plan approval process. The Chamber supports the change in the zoning for this property as approved in Zoning Z06-12-C by the Town Council. A yes vote will amend the zoning map to change the zoning.
