What is an IPL Photofacial?

It is a laser treatment used to help rejuvenate the skin on the face, neck, chest or hands. A person has to be a minimum age of 18 but most people who come in are between the ages of 25 and those in their late 60s.

What can the IPL Photofacial be used for?

It is used to help make a person look more youthful, even out their skin tone, and soften any damaged skin. A person with Rosacea, a chronic skin condition that reddens and swells the face, can have that reduced by 80-90 percent with the IPL Photofacial treatment. If a person has sun-damaged skin, such as brown spots, we can get rid of them.

How does the treatment work?

Basically a light energy from the laser produces collagen in the damaged skin area. The new production of collagen helps soften and repair the damaged skin. It just takes the surface layers of the skin off.

Are there other laser treatments you offer? If so, how do they differ?

We have the Pixel Laser, which is more invasive than the IPL – meaning it goes deeper into the skin. Recently we acquired a Venus Freeze, which is a non-invasive treatment that combines radio frequency and magnetic pulses instead of a direct beam of light to fix the damaged skin.

Are any of these treatments painful?

No. It is a pain-free experience that is safe.

What’s the recovery look like after the treatment?

It is recommended that you stay out of the sun for two weeks. Always wear sunscreen. We also recommend that you don’t do workouts, go in a sauna or hot showers for 48 hours. We’ve already heated up your face and added heat could make the healing process less successful or actually cause damage such as hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation. We also recommend that patients come in every four weeks to receive the treatment again.
