A builder’s request to zone an 18-acre Gilbert spot for town homes was rejected Tuesday by the town’s economic development advisory board.
Dozens of residents oppose the request by Shea Homes, saying they were promised the land, now designated commercial, would be home to a resort.
But, the town’s planning commission supports rezoning the area, which sits outside the Seville Golf and Country Club near Higley and Riggs roads. Kathy Langdon, board member and Gilbert Chamber of Commerce CEO, said the panel would like a study on how to use the land in a more beneficial way, particularly in a town with limited commercial property. The issue goes to the Town Council for a final decision.
