A Gilbert police officer shot and killed a bloodhound dog he said charged him after attacking and biting two women.
The dog, which later was euthanized at a nearby emergency pet clinic at the request of its owner, attacked and bit Danica Metcalf, 27, and was attacking Janet McLellan, 47, when the police responded to a report of an aggressive dog about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West Laredo Avenue, according to Gilbert police.
As the officer attempted to stop the dog from attacking McLellan, the dog charged at him and he shot it once, according to police.
One of the women was treated at the scene and the other was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries to her leg.
Maricopa County Animal Care & Control cited the dog's owner for a dog at large.
