Event raises funds for cancer fight

Gelato Freeze is joining three Gilbert moms to raise money for the fight against breast cancer on Wednesday, in an event that will feature firefighters dressed in pink as the "Guardians of the Ribbon" firefighters - who will perform at 4 p.m. and bring a big ribbon sculpture for survivors to sign.

The event, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., coincides with the first day of Gelato Freeze's summer family fun event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and allows kids to make animals out of gelato and other treats.

Gilbert moms Heather Stenz, Amy Solano and Kim Waddell are raising money to participate in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 3-Day walk in November.

Several stores in the area will join in on the fun, which includes crafts and face painting. Juice It Up will donate $1 from every smoothie sold the entire day, and Waldo's BBQ will donate all of the day's proceeds.

Waldo's, Carrabas and NYPD Pizza will hand out coupons for free food.
