Free workout time

If you need some motivation to get out of the house and get some exercise, Gilbert has a great offer for you. To celebrate the town's 90th birthday on Wednesday all residents will be eligible for a free 90 minutes of workout time at the town's recreation centers.

The Freestone Recreation Center, 1141 E. Guadalupe Road, is available from 5:15 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the climbing wall open from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The McQueen Park Activity Center, 510 N. Horne St., will have free gym admission from noon to 5:45 p.m. and family gym time from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

The Gilbert Community Center, 130 N. Oak Street, will have open admission to the fitness center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Bird festival

The Feathered Friends Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riparian Institute, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road. Fortyorganizations will have booths at this free event to help educate, entertain and inform the public about issues facing wildlife and the environment.

Quilting demonstration

The Gilbert Historical Museum, 10 S. Gilbert Road, will host a quilting demonstration 11 a.m. Saturday by Lona Johnson. She will showcase how to make T-shirt quilts.

The demonstration is part of the museum's "The Art of Quilting Show," which features numerous beautiful and ornate quilts on display for show and sale.

Admission to the museum is $5, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 5 to 12.

'Guys and Dolls' show

The Hale Centre Theatre will present the classic musical play "Guys and Dolls" through April 3. This tale of love and romance is set in New York City during the rollicking 1940s and is filled with memorable songs.

The theater is located at 50 W. Page Ave.

Ticket prices are $22 for matinees and $24 for evening shows.

Global Village Festival volunteers sought

Gilbert's multicultural celebration is looking for volunteers to assist at the April 17 event. Help is needed to set up, tear down and work in the various displays. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and admittance to the hospitality tent for their efforts.

Recreation classes

Looking to get the kids out of the house? Interested in picking up a new skill?

Registration is open for the spring session of Gilbert recreational classes. Take a look at the wide variety of activities offered by the town at the Freestone Recreation Center, 1141 E. Guadalupe Road.

Dance, sports, education, fitness and martial arts are just a few of the courses offered. Registration fees and starting dates vary.

Knitting and crochet club

The Common Threads, a knitting and crochet club, will meet 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Newsstand Room at the Perry Branch Library, 965 E. Queen Creek Road. All ages and ability levels are welcome to come and share projects, food and friendship.
