Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary, which has been operating in Gilbert since 1994, is changing its name to Friends for Life Animal Rescue.

The nonprofit’s name has caused confusion as to what Friends for Life actually provides, prompting the group to change its name, according to the group’s spokeswoman.

Friends for Life is a no-kill, volunteer-based organization that focuses on spay and neuter, education, and the rescue of stray cats and dogs from the streets and rural areas of Arizona communities.

“Our mission is to rescue the animals, provide medical attention and love, and find forever families for them, which is what has prompted our name change to Friends for Life Animal Rescue,” said spokeswoman Barb Savoy. “We feel that it more accurately describes our intentions.”
