The Gilbert Unified School District governing board voted Tuesday to confirm the make-up of the committee that will work on the transition of Gilbert Junior High.

By a 4-to-1 vote, the board agreed the committee would be formed with five Gilbert Junior High parents, five Gilbert Classical Academy parents, administrators from each of those two schools and a facilitator, according to assistant superintendent Shane McCord. Only board member Staci Burk voted against the measure.

The board decided earlier this fall to close Gilbert Junior High at the end of the 2013-14 school year. The committee is to come back with a recommendation no later than the first meeting in January on how to transition the current seventh-graders and whether Gilbert Classical Academy will move to Gilbert Junior High next fall or the following year. The transition committee’s first meeting is set for Tuesday at the district’s community education building, 6839 E. Guadalupe Road, Mesa.
