Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe mayors join education group

Mayors from Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe will join a new group “dedicated to improving education statewide,” it was announced Friday.
Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, Gilbert Mayor John Lewis and Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell will join in the Arizona Mayors Education Roundtable during a press conference next week. The group hopes to expand its membership in the next year, according to a news release.
Former West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise, who now leads the Alliance for Excellent Education, will kick off the first meeting at the Burton Barr Central Library, Children’s Section, 1221 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.
