On May 3, teens from across the state will compete in the state finals of the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition at Glendale Community College.
At the competition, two-person teams from 10 Arizona high schools will race against the clock – and each other – to correctly identify and fix installed bugs in identical 2013 Ford Fusion SE vehicles. Once the bugs have been diagnosed and repaired, the teams will drive across the finish line, where their work will be inspected for accuracy and quality.
“Each year, the Ford/AAA Auto Skills competition brings together the best of the country’s future top automotive technicians,” said Don Nunnari, vice president of automotive services for AAA Arizona. “The competition is just one of the ways in which AAA and Ford demonstrate their commitment to the community and builds awareness of career opportunities in the automotive service industry.”
Based on scores from an online qualifying exam, the following East Valley students were selected to compete in this year’s competition: East Valley Institute of Technology's Brighton Hornbaker and Thomas Reeves; and Gilbert Unified School District's David Lehrer and Corey Hermann.
