I would think the Sossaman Estates site is a very poor location for a middle school. This site is in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. The neighborhood arterial streets are typical neighborhood streets poorly suited to a middle school.
The site is better suited to an elementary school or Higley's more common K-8 model where many students reside near the school. These K-8 schools include a mix of walk, bus and vehicle traffic. A middle school choice will mean that an overwhelming majority of students will be bused or driven to the school greatly impacting the traffic in the community. A majority of traffic enters and leaves this community from one of three entrances which means the traffic burden on this community will make it a poor site location.
While I support the district's choice to move to a separate elementary & middle school model, I wonder if the district considered the impact to the Sossaman Estates community when deciding this was a good location for a middle school?
