Top of the Class of 2013: Higley's Williams Field High School

Higley's Williams Field High School in Gilbert will see 340 students receive diplomas this year. Those students have already been awareded $5.6 million in scholarships.

The schools is recognizing its Summa Cum Laude graduates, those students in the top 1 percent of the graduating class.

Morgan Behling

GPA: 4.81

College: Brigham Young University

Field: Biology or psychology, pre-medicine

When not studying…: I do track and field and cross country. I won’t be competing in college; it’s more of a hobby for me. I’ve been playing the piano for 10 years. I like playing a lot of Jon Schmidt’s music (classical new age).

Fun Fact: My favorite food is lemons with salt. My mom ate them while she was pregnant with me. I still love them, and I’ve been eating them ever since.

Shandon Coffman

GPA: 4.79

College: Northwestern University

Field: Pre-medicine or humanities

When not studying: I volunteer a lot.

Fun fact: I’m in government and macroeconomics, and I really like it. It’s something that everyone should take just to be a more informed citizen. I read a lot of philosophical books by certain authors about things like quantum physics and New Age thought.

Tyler Wilson

GPA: 4.76

College: Brigham Young University

Field: Pre-medicine. “But I’m going on a mission first for my church to Manaus, Brazil. It’s in the rainforest right on the Amazon River.”

When not studying: I play sports – soccer and volleyball. I love playing the piano. I’m going on nine years with piano.

Fun fact: I collect tickets – concert tickets, theater tickets and plane tickets. My family goes to the theater a lot. And I love “Jekyll and Hyde” the musical.
