Higley High School's Alanie Harmon of Gilbert has won a $20,000 scholarship provided by the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation.

Harmon joins Sedona's Mason Ingrassi as members of the 2011 Class of KFC Colonel's Scholars. Both students are eligible to receive up to $20,000 over the next four years to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited public university in Arizona.

Out of more than 90,000 applicants, 75 scholarship recipients were chosen based on demonstrated financial need, entrepreneurial spirit, strong drive and perseverance and impact the students have had on both their schools and communities.

Harmon, 18, will begin her freshman year at Arizona State University in August, where she will pursue a degree in environmental chemistry.
