Students at Mesa's Dobson High School have pledged to put their cell phones down and focus on the road when driving, as part of Allstate Foundation's national "X the TXT" campaign.
During a program presented by the foundation and Health World, Dobson students added their thumbprints to a banner symbolizing their pledge.
According to a recent Allstate Foundation study, 49 percent of teens admit to being extremely distracted by texting and instant messaging while driving, and 82 percent say they use their cell phone behind the wheel.
More than 80,000 people have made the "X the TXT" pledge, receiving thumb bands with the words TXTNG KILLS to wear as a daily reminder of their promise.
