Mesa Preparatory Academy teacher Rebekah Kienenberger has been awarded a grant by the Association of American Educators Foundation for an inquiry-based learning project. Kienenberger plans to have her students build a water filter to purify polluted drinking water.

“The students will be faced with the difficulty of the purification process and learn the importance of water conservation and cleanliness. They will also research the methods for purification within their geographic area as well as conservation efforts for their water supplies,” said Kienenberger, an earth science teacher.

The Association of American Educators Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation. The national scholarship and grant competition is held twice a year. The spring deadline is March 1.
