Mesquite High School in the Gilbert Unified School District received a bronze medal in U.S. News & World Report’s second annual list of America’s Best High Schools.

The bronze medal recognizes high schools that have met analysis and methodology on standardized test performance and student proficiency rates.

Details about the analysis can be found at www.usnews.com/highschools.

Q.C. school receives donation for music

Christopher and Rebecca Katsaras donated $600 to Frances-Brandon Pickett Elementary School to buy musical instruments. Music teacher Antoinette Edwards said she will buy hand bells, tambourine triangles and extra song books for her classes.

The Queen Creek school had been fundraising for the music class and Edwards said the donation was the biggest one she received.

“I wanted to buy more instruments so more students could have an instrument at the same time,” said Edwards, who came from the Tempe Elementary School District last year. Information: (480) 987-7421.

Education briefs run on Sunday. To submit an item, e-mail Hayley Ringle at hringle@evtrib.com or call (480) 898-6301.
