Top of the Class of 2013: Chandler High School

Chandler High School will give diplomas to 787 students at 8 p.m. Wednesday on the school's Austin Field.

Students have earned scholarships totaling more than $21.5 million.

Mary Nguyen is the No. 1 graduate in the class.

She is an IB Diploma candidate and National Merit Finalist. She is very proud of her President's Service Award logging over 250 hours of community service. Her team placed first in the state in the Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math competition. She placed sixth as a speaker in the state for speech and debate.

She is going to attend Brown University and double concentrate in education studies and biochemistry, along with a pre-med track. She will attend medical school to become a reconstructive/plastic surgeon, along with focusing on extensive science research.

Mary received the National Merit Scholarship, Willis Junior High PTO Scholarship, Impact Scholarship, Sun Lakes Rotary Scholarship, and Brown University Scholarship.

John Wang is the Chandler High School salutatorian.

John is a National AP Scholar and a National Merit finalist. He excels in all areas and but favors math and science. John is involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math and Science Club.

John will be attending Cornell University in the fall. He plans on pursuing a career in statistics.
