This will be a short week for the Queen Creek Unified School District. There is no school on Monday because of Memorial Day, and the last day of school is Thursday.

Variety show set for elementary school

Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary School will host a variety show from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 22074 E. Village Loop Road, Queen Creek.

GILBERT

District board to meet Tuesday

Gilbert Unified School District governing board will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, 140 S. Gilbert Road.

The board is expected to discuss increasing student parking fees for the upcoming school year.

Board members are expected to appoint an assistant principal for Gilbert Junior High School and South Valley Junior High School, along with a principal for Gilbert Learning Center.

The board is also expected to consider approval of purchasing land and a residence at 1234 E. Germann Road, next to Campo Verde High School.

PLAN forum planned for Wednesday

PLAN, the Parent Legislative Action Network, will host a public forum from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road, Gilbert. The forum will include Rep. Rich Crandall, the chairman of the House Education Committee, Gilbert Unified School District governing board President Thad Stump and Gilbert district Superintendent Dave Allison.

Three Gilbert moms formed PLAN to mobilize their peers, answer questions and reach out to legislators and the governor. They want local government to know education should be a top priority.

Higley booster club meeting is Wednesday

Higley Unified School District parents are invited to an Academic Booster Club meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Higley High School library, 4068 E. Pecos Road, Gilbert.

Higley district board meets Thursday

The Higley Unified School District governing board will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 2935 S. Recker Road, Gilbert. Agenda items were not available before the weekend.

Goodard School hosting Luau

The Goddard School, a preschool for children six weeks to 6 years old, is hosting a Hawaiian Luau Open House from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gilbert school, 4080 E. Germann Road. There will be refreshments, hula dance lessons, Hawaiian music, and arts and crafts to help kick off the summer program. Families who enroll by June 1 will receive free registration, a $150 value.

Another Goddard School in Gilbert is hosting a United Food Bank food drive through Friday at the school, 720 E. Warner Road.

Desert Ridge hosting Jaguar Cheer Camp

Future Desert Ridge High School cheerleaders in first through eighth grades are invited to attend the Jaguar Cheer Camp June 1-11 at the Gilbert district high school, 10045 E. Madero Ave., Mesa. The cheer, chant, dance, jump and stunt camp will run Monday through Thursday, and will be taught by varsity and junior varsity coaches, and alumni who were Desert Ridge cheerleaders.

The cost for first to third grades is $50 for 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.; $75 for fourth to sixth grades from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; and $85 for seventh to eighth grades, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
