Nearly 31,000 children - as large a crowd as what attends an Arizona Diamondbacks' game - have signed up for the Summer Reading Program at libraries within the Maricopa County Library District.

The program, which ends July 30, is being offered to children from birth to 18 years of age at libraries from Sun City to Queen Creek and Goodyear to Gilbert.

A complete online listings of events tied to the program can be found at www.mcldaz.org/summer.

At a Maricopa County supervisors' meeting earlier this month, the board accepted cash and other donations worth $958,000, all targeted for the summer reading program, including prizes for participants.
