Mesa teacher Nancie Lindblom was named the Arizona Education Foundation Arizona Teacher of the Year on Wednesday.

Lindblom is a 17-year teaching veteran. She currently teaches Advanced Placement U.S. history at Mesa Unified School District’s Skyline High School.

As Teacher of the Year, Lindblom will receive a $15,000 cash prize, professional speech training, an interactive white board, and a full scholarship toward an advanced degree at Argosy University. She also will get to meet President Obama, compete for the title of National Teacher of the Year and attend international Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala.

The foundation also named its four finalists, dubbed “ambassadors for excellence.” Higley Unified School District’s Lindsey Connor, a math teacher at San Tan Elementary School in Gilbert, was named as one of the finalists.
