Gilbert's Highland High School will graduate 715 students in its Class of 2013. The students have earned $10 million in scholarships.

Jori Barash, 18

GPA: 4.54

Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Jori has lived is Gilbert for fifteen years. He excels in several activities, while maintaining strong academics. A National Merit scholarship finalist, National Honors Society officer, member of the SAT “800” Club, and AP Scholar with Distinction, Jori spends most of his time in music. He has played in Highland High School’s top jazz band, wind ensemble, symphony, and marching band, while dedicating to outside groups like Sonic Brass, Phoenix Youth Symphony, and his start-up wind quintet, the Quintessential Winds. In his free time, Jori arranges and composes music for chamber ensembles, sculpts, and plays far too many puzzle games. Accepted to nine of the twelve universities he foolishly applied to, Jori hopes to attend the University of Southern California with a double major in Horn and Public Policy.

The HHS Class of 2013 Senior Speaker is a student that is chosen due to faculty nomination and final votes. The student is chosen for making a significant impact within Highland and the surrounding community and world around us.

Name: Jaden Dawn DeGracie, 18

GPA: 4.0 unweighted – 4.4390 weighted

Jaden Dawn DeGracie grew up in Gilbert. Her parents are Daniel and Rebecca. She is very close with her family, especially with her older and only sibling Jake. She has a 4.0 unweighted and 4.439 weighted GPA and has taken rigorous academic courses including several AP, honors, and dual credit classes. She is also a four year Gilbert Golden Scholar and was honored by the Gilbert Town Council as a Student of the Month. Jaden plays soccer in the Elite Club National League that competes all over the country and was captain of Arizona’s State Olympic Development Team. One of Jaden’s proudest accomplishments was being a member of the Highland High School 5A State Championship Girls Soccer Team her junior year. Jaden was named Arizona’s Girls Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year, “which recognizes both outstanding athletic excellence and high standards of academic achievement and exemplary charter, distinguishes her as Arizona’s best high school girls soccer player.” She also was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Year for Arizona and Scholar All American. Jaden will be attending the Honors College at the University of Arizona on a soccer scholarship. She plans on majoring in chemistry and eventually becoming an orthodontist.
