The Walton Group of Companies, a Canadian company whose U.S. headquarters are based in Scottsdale, has pledged to improve the well-being of needy children in Arizona with a $25,000 donation to Phoenix Suns Charities.

The contribution is the first of many Walton intends to make to the organization, which benefits groups that care for children in need. Walton has pledged to become a member of the exclusive Playmaker class of donors who commit to contributing $100,000 to Phoenix Suns Charities over a maximum of four years. Playmaker members receive the opportunity to participate in the process that selects the Phoenix Suns Charities annual $100,000 Playmaker Grant.

Walton is well-known for its philanthropic efforts in its home province of Alberta, Canada. Company CEO, Bill Doherty, and his family members operate the Our Lady Queen of Peace ranches in Calgary and Edmonton, offering free outdoor experiences to under-privileged children. Patrick and Maureen Doherty, the founders of Walton and Our Lady Queen of Peace Foundation, have been honored with the Order of Canada, the highest award the Canadian government can bestow upon its citizens.

“My parents taught me at a young age that business success only matters if you give back to your community,” said Bill Doherty. “Our U.S. home is here in the Valley, so we want to continue the giving tradition in this community that we began in Canada, with a focus on providing children opportunities they otherwise would not have.”

Walton USA President Rob Leinbach said the Phoenix Suns Charities is an excellent match for Walton’s charitable contribution initiatives. “Phoenix Suns Charities shares our vision,” he said. “We look forward to working with such an outstanding organization to help improve the quality of life of Arizona’s children and their families.”

Walton’s U.S. headquarters are located at 4800 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
