Mesa’s Pilgrim Lutheran School, 3257 E. University Drive, will offer free tuition to a limited number of children in grades two through seven for the next semester only, which begins in January.
Pilgrim has six educators on staff who teach students in combined classrooms of grades one and two, grades three and four, grades five and six, and grades seven and eight.
Families will be required to pay the $500 registration fee for supplies, but the annual tuition of $4,570 will be waived for one semester.

Private schools don't usually get money from the taxpayers, only public and charter schools do. Private schools base their budget on student enrollment costs.

The taxpayers are NOT paying for this. The members of the church will not be collecting the usual tuition fees that are usually used to pay the teachers. This is a one time offer and has nothing to do with the Arizona Tax Credit which I think SamKat is referring.
