FILE - In this April 4, 2012, file photo, Scott Richards of Saint Anselm College looks over possible jobs during a career fair for college students in Manchester, N.H. With college enrollment growing, student debt has stretched to a record number of U.S. households — nearly 1 in 5 — with the biggest burdens falling on the young and poor, according to a study based on the Survey of Consumer Finances released Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. Because of the sluggish economy, fewer college students than before are able to settle into full-time careers immediately upon graduation, contributing to a jump in debt among lower-income households as the young adults take on part-time jobs or attend graduate school. Obama's plan is outlined and far better than Romney's "best of luck, sorry you were not born rich like me" plan.

Get the federal government out of the education business. After 40+ years the federal government has proven it can't teach our children. Eliminate the Department of Education. Return authority for education to the states and local school boards. Stop all federal students loans except for veterans.

Deddzone: You're a fool! It was Oblamer, who have created policies to increase the number of loans students are now owing! By creating a dependent society and mindset, this Muslim President is following his agenda of destroying America's financial system to the letter! But, liberals like you are just too ignorant to see it!
So, students coming out of college cannot find jobs to pay back their student loans, as Oblamer has spent less than three hours this year, meeting with his so-called "Job Council!" Dependent society will turn into a socialist/Marxist society, which Oblamer is trying to achieve. But, dufus liberals like you are still stuck on the bogus "born rich" garbage! Wake up and smell communism!

Rockstar, I don't wake up and wonder why Arizona is "purple" any longer. The writing is on the wall that Romney is not doing well. How did that happen? Well, I suspect the lack of understanding from those who think our president is a Muslim. They cry socialist/marxist and communism---and never understand the meaning of the words.
Those cries came from a small percentage of voters and have helped ruin the GOP and created a "war from within" the Republican party.
People can hear you and they don't agree.

Provide Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection for student loan borrowers who don't have a graduate degree. Problem solved. Next?

Yes, let's have the taxpayers guarantee student loans, just like Freddie and Fannie did for mortgages.
That worked out great.
Deddzone, get a job and pay for your education. I did.

Pell grants and Federal Loans have far better rates.
Chuckles, I long ago paid for my education. I've had a job since I was 16. Thanks!
Like I said before, if Arizona goes Blue....I know why!

Fortunately doubling of student loan rates was successfully prevented, but it wasn't the only problem. The problem is that college education today is crazy expensive and for lots of those who wants to attend there's no other way exept taking out a student loan. The price should be affordable, and getting in debt should not be the only solution. Because college tuition is expensive people graduate with lots of debt and then take out pay day advance loans to pay it off. If nothing will change the student loan will become the biggest problem for the economy.
