Students from Mesa’s East Valley Institute of Technology participated in the Arizona Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) spring conference earlier this month in Tucson. Of the 52 students competing, 31 placed in the top five or were named to state offices. Gold medalists will travel to the HOSA National Leadership Conference this summer in Orlando, Florida to compete for national titles.

The following students won first place honors: Highland High School’s Cassie Walker (medical assisting); Chandler High School’s Sarah Helmstadter (veterinary science); Highland High School’s Shana Vales (extemporaneous poster); and the HOSA Bowl team, Queen Creek High School’s Cristian Chiriboga, John Poirier and Heather Walters and Apache Junction High School’s Tyler Routt .
