Desert Ridge hosting freshman academy

Incoming Desert Ridge High School ninth-graders are invited to attend the third annual Desert Ridge Freshman Academy from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 10045 E. Madero Ave.

Students will be taken on a campus tour, shown what an average day in the life of a Desert Ridge Jaguar is like and introduced to coaches and club sponsors.

Students will also receive training in organizational skills, learning styles and the ins and outs of high school courses and credits. Lunch will be provided.

Buses will pick up students at 7:30 a.m. at Boulder Creek, Canyon Rim, Meridian and Superstition elementary schools.

The buses will return students around 3 p.m.

Students can also be dropped off at the high school's south gate entrance, nearest the student parking lot, around 8 a.m. Thursday. The day will begin in the auditorium.

Desert Ridge is a Mesa school in the Gilbert Unified School District.
