The Gilbert Unified School District has moved its Tuesday governing board meeting -- when the board will vote on whether to close Gilbert Junior High -- to the cafeteria of Mesquite High School.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Mesquite, 500 S. McQueen.
The governing board will hear a proposal from the district to alter the boundaries for five of the six junior high schools with the closing of Gilbert Junior High. The plan would move Gilbert Classical Academy into the buildings at Gilbert Junior High School.
Gilbert Junior High enrollment is now around 600 students, down from more than 1,000 in 2003. Gilbert Classical Academy has filled its space in a former elementary school site at Elliot and Greenfield roads. It has more than 400 students in seventh through 12th grade, with 100 on a waiting list.
