Armed with flowers and a huge box of school supplies, Office Max associates surprised two Gilbert Unified School District teachers last week. Sandy Tani, sixth-grade teacher at Pioneer Elementary School, and Chris Vowell, a kindergarten teacher at Harris Elementary School, each received more than $1,000 in school supplies through the "A Day Made Better" program.

The teachers received a variety of items, including a new office chair, a digital camera and printer, and arts supplies.

Citing an average of $1,000 in out-of-pocket expenditures that teachers put into their classrooms each year, the Office Max company joined with Adopt-A-Classroom to create the event.
