Six military flags were stolen in Apache Junction, but oddly the thief left behind the American and Arizona State flags.

Apache Junction police said the flags were stolen late in the night on October 14 near the intersection of Apache Trail and Phelps Drive.

“I feel that it’s just a kick in the teeth,” said V.F.W. Post 9399 Commander Bob Stark who was angered to hear about the theft.

Stark helped raise the funds for the flag display that was dedicated on May 2.

The military flags stolen include the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force and POW/MIA.

Even though the city already spent $680 to replace the stolen flags, Stark told ABC15 that he plans on donating duplicates to the city this Friday in case another theft happens again.

Currently, there are no leads and so officers are offering a reward for information that ends with an arrest and a conviction.
