Dozens of St. Patrick's Day partiers were arrested Sunday during special DUI patrols in the East Valley.

Tempe was the site of the command center where several large trucks with bright lights processed the accused drunk drivers through the night.

"We encourage people not to drink and drive, but if they do we will be out in force," said Sgt. Tim Bulson with the Tempe Police Department.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Mesa, Scottsdale and Tempe police were all involved.

St. Patrick's Day is traditionally one of the most dangerous days for drivers. There were 700 deadly accidents on the holiday from 2006 to 2010.
