Chandler and Mesa police are investigating multiple car fires that were set across the cities early Thursday.
Sgt. Joe Favazzo said Chandler police found four vehicles that were set on fire and several more that someone tried to burn. He said "it sounds like Mesa may have been targeted as well."
According to Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato, about 2:45 a.m. Mesa police received calls about two vehicles on fire in the area of Westwood and 10th Street.
"This is a residential area. We do suspect these are arson cases and possibly related to the incidents in Chandler, based simply on the similarity and timing of events," Landato said in a news release. "There is no suspect information at this time, but the investigation is ongoing."
All of the fires are out and the vehicles are being processed for evidence, Favazzo said on Thursday morning.
No one was injured in the vehicle fires in Chandler or Mesa.
Police are asking the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity, people or vehicles in their neighborhoods. Report suspicious activity to local police; in Chandler, call (480) 782-4130. In case of emergency, call 911.
