The Big Canyon fire, a lightning-caused blaze reported Oct. 14, is about 80 percent contained, forest authorities said Monday.
The fire is burning 2 miles west of the Tonto Fish Hatchery in the Big Canyon area, about 14 miles east of Payson. According to a news release, “Mop up has been completed and most resources have been released. Remaining firefighters will continue to monitor the fire until it’s declared contained.”
