The Arizona Department of Public Safety will deploy additional officers and obtain supplementary resources in its efforts to increase DUI enforcement on Super Bowl Sunday.
According to a DPS, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 and continuing to the morning of Monday, Feb. 3, DPS will have a large contingent of additional officers participating in DUI patrols on freeways in the Phoenix area.
“We hope this operation will significantly reduce the number of impaired motorists on our roadways while sending a strong message that driving while impaired will not be tolerated,” DPS Sgt. Jacob Pruett said.
A DUI command post will be headquartered near 19th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard in Phoenix.
The operation will take place with help from special funding from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway, according to DPS.
