A man was stunned with a Taser and arrested by Mesa police for assaulting an officer early Wednesday morning after a resident found him sleeping on the front porch.

The officer who arrived at the residence in the 900 block of North Revere found Irvin S. Tsosie sleeping on the porch. According to police, the officer tried to wake Tsosie by poking him with a baton, but Tsosie was "obviously very intoxicated." When he did wake up, Tsosie cursed at the officer and advanced toward him "in an aggressive manner," police said. The officer struck Tsosie in the leg with his baton, but ended up using his Taser when Tsosie continued to advance.

Tsosie was taken to Arizona Regional Hospital for treatment and then booked into Mesa City Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer.
