A 33-year-old man on a bicycle who Mesa police say confronted a motorist with a knife was arrested Tuesday after officers chased him, zapped him with a Taser, and he tried to bite them.

Jimmy Rudy Madrid, 33, was transported to Arizona Regional Hospital and later booked into Mesa City Jail for warrants and on suspicion of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Mesa police, Madrid was riding his bike about 3:30 p.m. when he got into a confrontation with a motorist and displayed a knife at 1342 W. Emerald. The driver called police, but Madrid was gone by the time they arrived, police said.

Then they got a second call that Madrid was attempting to enter an apartment in that same complex. When officers located him, Madrid ran, and when he refused to comply with verbal commands, they used a Taser on him with no results, according to police.

Madrid fought with officers and attempted to bite them, police said.

This man has made his choices, and they were CRIMINAL. He may have a "mental" problem, but I'd doubt it. Sounds like he has a "drug" problem.

This man is pitiful. He needs to be mentally evaluated - and then, sent to rehab....not jail.
