The Mesa SWAT team was called to a neighborhood about 4:30 p.m. Monday when a resident refused to come out of his home after throwing a shovel at a neighbor.

Police were called to the 600 block of West Los Lagos Vista when a resident said a neighbor jumped over his wall and threw several tools at him. When the officers responded to the suspect's home, they could hear him yelling at his dog. During the investigation, police learned from neighbors that there had been several incidents with the suspect and they were concerned about his mental state.

Police discovered the suspect was prohibited from having firearms, but they believed he may be in possession. After trying to persuade the suspect to exit the home, SWAT was able to get him out. After a search warrant was issued, police found several firearms and possible marijuana plants.

That case was dropped and it was proved that the neighbor lied. The only person throwing things was the neighbor who in fact was building a structure without a permit and when asked by the suspect if he had a permit he went off on a tangent of vulgar name calling and throwing objects at suspect who was in his own yard at the time.
