An incident Sunday afternoon started with Mesa police checking a residence for a city code violation and ended with a fight, use of a Taser, and a man arrested.
According to Mesa police, officers contacted Roland Lederer, 50, about 1 p.m. at 27 S. Robson regarding a code violation. A records check showed there was a warrant out for Lederer's arrest. When he was informed of this and then tried to walk away, police grabbed him and tried to arrest him.
Police said Lederer then pushed and punched officers, including one that was knocked to the ground. A second officer then got into a fist fight with Lederer, and eventually a Taser was deployed multiple times before Lederer could be handcuffed, police said.
Lederer was transported to Arizona Regional Hospital and then booked into the Mesa City Jail on two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, one count of resisting arrest, obstructing a public thoroughfare, and a warrant for failure to appear on a previous charge out of Mesa City Court.
