The Tempe Police Department, working in cooperation with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Arizona Department of Liquor Control and Arizona State University, has kicked off an enforcement campaign to curb underage alcohol violations, unlawful gatherings/loud party complaints, and impaired driving in the city.

The crackdown began on Tuesday and will conclude the first week of May following ASU graduation ceremonies. Officers will be very visible in the downtown district, in addition to assuring that the entire city is safely patrolled.

According to the National Underage Drinking Enforcement Center, young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence and are two and a half times more likely to become abusers of alcohol than those who begin drinking at age 21, according to statistics from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Go fight real crime fellas...I know these citations bring a lot of money into the city, but can you please concentrate on actual public safety?
