A fire broke out in a home in the 500 block of South Hassett in Mesa Wednesday afternoon after a driverless truck crashed into the house.
Mesa Police said the fire was the result of an unsuccessful gas theft at a 10836 E. Clovis. According to police, the suspect, Hebert Ridge, 37, caught fire while trying to steal gas, but tried to drive his truck away. He either fell or jumped out of the vehicle, which then continued into the home where a “significant fire” resulted.
The suspect was located and taken to Maricopa County Burn Unit. He could face charges of theft, DUI, felony criminal damage, and possession of dangerous drugs. His condition was not listed Thursday afternoon.

Wow, what a guy! He is a thief, a walking fire hazard, his own ignition source, a building arsonist and total waste of emergency and medical resources. Amazing, simply amazing.
