A 37-year-old man is in police custody after barricading himself inside a San Tan Valley home Tuesday.

Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Jones said the suspect, Mark Methany, tried to hang himself before being taken into police custody. The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Detectives believe that Methany fled Maricopa County to Pinal County where he barricaded himself inside a San Tan Valley home near Gary Road and the Hunt Highway.

Methany is wanted in connection with the attempted murder of his wife by allegedly beating her and stabbing her several times.

Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Elias Johnson said Skyline Ranch Elementary was on temporary lockdown, but is now back open.

Deputies do not know whose house Methany was in, but believe he knows the homeowners. The family that was inside the home is out of the house.

Officials with both the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Pinal County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest.

Everyone at the school is safe.
