Mesa police are investigating the death of 4-month-old girl who was unresponsive after she was driven to a Circle K convenience store on Monday.

Shawn Lewis Dale, 19, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI soon after he walked into the store at 2815 E. University Drive carrying the child who was unresponsive, according to police. He had a passenger in the car who was under the age of 15, police said.

The baby, Teonna George Brown, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, a cause that appears to be heat-related, police said.

Police believe that Dale is a friend of the parents of the child and was babysitting the girl while the parents were at work.
