Three people sleeping inside a burning Mesa residence on Saturday escaped injury after police awoke them and evacuated them from the home.
About 6:35 a.m., police responded to a structure fire in the 2600 block of East Dartmouth and gained entry into the residence before getting the residents out.
Moments later, Mesa fire crews arrived on the scene and contained the fire to the residence, police said.
