A man attempted to stop two students walking Thursday morning to Gilbert’s San Tan Elementary School, according to the Higley Unified School District.
The students told investigators they were walking along Bonanza Road when a man driving a dirty, white Ford Explorer pulled up to them and told them to stop walking. The students kept going, but police said the driver then put his car onto the sidewalk in front of them and attempted again to get them to stop. They then ran to the school at 3443 E. Calistoga Drive, and notified officials, who called police.
Students said the man may have been Hispanic, thin, and was wearing a blue T-shirt. The Ford Explorer had a cracked windshield. Police are still searching for him, according to a release from the school district.
Higley Unified is working with police on the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Gilbert Police Department’s non-emergency line at (480) 503-6500.
