Police say a Phoenix teenager was slightly wounded by a bullet fired by an officer after the fleeing teen pointed a handgun.

Phoenix police officer Luis Samudio says officers responding to a report of a fight with shots fired in a west Phoenix neighborhood at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday saw two people running away.

They caught one, and while an officer chased the other, the 16-year-old boy climbed over a block wall, pointing a gun at the officer.

Samudio says the officer fired several shots. The teen was caught nearly three hours later and had a bullet graze wound on his leg.

He was arrested on an aggravated assault charge and booked into the county juvenile jail.

The officer is on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
