Mesa police are investigating the drowning of a 68-year-old woman whose son discovered her in the family pool on Sunday.

Shortly before 2 p.m., police responded to the call in the 10400 block of West Idaho Circle after the woman, who police identified as Davene Montierth, was discovered in the pool moments after her son returned home to help

Montierth’s husband had left the house to attend a meeting that evening, and after he returned home, he could not find his wife. Montierth’s husband then called his sons, and when one returned home, he discovered Montierth floating in a backyard pool. The pool was described as very dirty by police.

Emergency crews arrived and Montierth was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
