Mesa police are investigating the death of a man who died after he was struck by a water tanker truck at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport early Saturday.
The man, who was identified as Cesar Rodriguez Montoya, 58, was preparing to fuel up the water tanker in a construction yard area of the airport when the tanker struck him and pinned him between his truck and the tanker, according to Mesa police.
Montoya was discovered by another employee moments before first aid was performed on him.
Montoya was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
Montoya is believed to be the only person present at the time of the incident after arriving at work early that morning. The water tanker is believed to have somehow shifted in to gear, pinning him between it and his vehicle, according to Sgt. Anthony Landato, a Mesa police spokesman.
