Fourteen cats throughout the East Valley have been stabbed in the back recently, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Two of the cats have died, said deputy Lindsey Smith, sheriff's spokeswoman.
Each cat suffered a long, deep gash down the spine. The cats belonged to families in Mesa, Chandler, Tempe and east Phoenix.
