NOW THEY NEED TO HANG THEM UP , NOT JUST A SLAP ON THE HAND AND A YEAR OR 2 IN JAIL.GIVE ALL OF THEM SOME SERIOUS TIME LIKE AT LEAST A MINIMUM OF 10 TO START
I would have hoped that anyone who had their car held for ransom would have been able to go back to the Tow yard with the Police and had the company person explain exactly why or give that person's car back right then and there. It that had happened a time or two, the would have probably quit doing it long before 2 years.
After working in the auto insurance industry for about 17 years, I can say that the malfeasance of towing companies is a well known problem. Over-charging, holding cars ransom essentially, refusing to admit they caused damage during the tow, etc. It goes on and on. I know people, often rightly, dislike insurance companies but in reality they are often the only ones making an effort against this type of thing. I would just say that if you can, make sure you investigate a tow company before using it, and if you do get scammed report it to your insurance carrier if they are in any way involved or to the BBB or even the police.
